[5 Songs] that are meaningfully deep

*sing* Deeper than the sea~
…Yeah, right. Maybe I’m listening to Exo too much.

-This time I’m not gonna split into Korean/Japanese, but rather go for 2 Korean, 2 Japanese and 1 Chinese song-

Some people like to let go while listening to music, to forget all the problems in the world.
And I won’t deny that’s probably the intention of some artists, as well. But there are certain artists to choose otherwise: To point out problems they see or to name their innermost fears and troubles as a first step to progress them and to encourage other people to follow them in doing this. I’ve always had the habit to fall for this type of songs. Hard. They haunt me, wrap me up and don’t let me go… Does this even make sense?

I’m gonna introduce you to some songs that fall under my category of truly meaningful songs – Let’s go tackle some issues, then?

The reason for not focusing on any language is that those songs simply are the strongest ones and I wanted to keep this list on a level as high as possible. Also people shouldn’t cling to one language only~
I can still make a second list if I come upon more songs like this :)

1. BADMAN from B.A.P (Korean)

A predictable entry in this list, huh?
People who’re into K-Pop might know that B.A.P’s leader Yongguk is notoriously un-idol-like. Not overly pretty, not overly cute, just not overly attention-seeking(No offense to idols doing their job). He just seems believably human and real and has an honest soft spot for all kind of charity on top of that. Though still young he already has the feeling of a true artist sticking to him, for obvious reasons. Rather than taking the safe route he produces songs and writes lyrics which more often than not tackle various problems.

And oh boy, BADMAN is a strong song. In means of the costumes, the as always Blockbuster-like video but mostly in terms of lyrics.

[5 Songs] that are plain hot(Japanese)

Sooo… Last time I listed Korean songs that make you blush upon hearing them. Let’s take a look at some Japanese songs today!
First things first; Japanese Pop-music is far more… “Explicit” than Korean music. Surely, that’s not even difficult and most Pop-songs are still pretty innocent… But let’s see what I found on my playlists and maybe you can spot the difference!

01. Candy from Koda Kumi

Koda Kumi is Japans’ sexy Queen. She’s pretty much the ambassador of feminine sex-appeal, always finding ways to be a little more provocative, a little more daring. That’s why it’s truly difficult to limit myself to one song. But I’ll stick with good old “Candy”, a rather old song(2006), which invalids a lot of arguments about the ‘prudish Japanese culture’. At least Kuu was never too shy for some sultry melodies, overly sexy vocals and dance moves. What makes Koda Kumi stand out from most other female artists in the industry is her oozing confidence. We all now she enjoys the spotlight, enjoys being sexy, and it’s a common fact that you can only be hot if you have the confidence.

[5 Songs] that are plain hot(Korean)

Woooh, I’m back! Sorta. I’m using an old netbook I lent, so my possibilites are still kinda narrow, but let’s see what we can do~
I’m now back from Korea aaa~nd, first thing I did…? I caught a cold. Seriously, it’s really warm here(about 25 Degrees), but the Korean temperature brings ‘hot’ to a totally different level. Why am I babbling about this? Can’t you see the poor pun on ‘hot songs’ announcing itself on the horizon? You can? Thank god, let’s skip this, then.

With the overflowing ‘sexy concepts’ everywhere, my opinion became just more refined lately. There are different types of sexy: One, the almost desperate undressing and showcasing of bare skin which, at times, is not only totally uneccessary(*cough* Nu’est’s Sleep Talking *cough*), but also incredibly awkward at other ones(BTS, I’m looking at YOU. I really love you and I do believe you; you have abs. No need to reassure me in every damn Choreo, ok?).
Now let’s drop the rant and move on to the second type, the one that gives me goosebumps because it’s really sexy.

1. When, Where, How from Park Kyung

I think you all know by now my love for the Block B’s bubbly rapper Kyung. It’s also probably safe to say that this duet on the ‘Very Good’ mini album came as a surprise in two ways. One: Kyung can not only be dorky, but also has an amazingly soft yet strong voice. Two: Damn, this song is sexy. It’s basically a song about lazy morning sex. Doesn’t sound too enticing, but the soft vocals carry lyrics that are very sensitive and colorful:

Instead of a morning call, the rain wakes me up
Between those sounds, I hear you ruffling around
It’s 11 o’clock, the curtains are closed
I like things just the way they are right now

Your tangled hair, your sleepy voice
You wear my x-large t-shirt…
Don’t mind the mess around us
Don’t mind it… Continue reading

[5 Songs] from Super Junior that are not “Sorry, Sorry”

Since the beloved SuJu Leader Leeteuk was recently discharged from his Military Service, we should take the opportunity to give some fresh Love to Super Junior~

20140731-211550-76550869.jpg

Regarding Super Junior there is one obvious problem that makes a lot of people eye them rather suspiciously: For a long time their title songs sounded pretty much the same. Following SM’s philosophy of “Don’t fix what’s not broken” their title songs were so very close to their breakthrough song “Sorry, Sorry”, that it became somewhat of a Running Gag among K-Pop fans. Sadly, it also gave them the image of being neither talented nor innovative.
And thaaa~t’s why I’m gonna introduce you to some of my favourite SuJu songs that sound nothing like “Sorry, Sorry”! ♪
(As always it goes after my personal preference – But I’ll try to cover various Genres :D)

1. – “Superman”

This is probably the most well-known song on this list – It even has some kind of backstage-video :)
I got to know SuJu through “Mr. Simple”, but this song hooked me.
Okay, the “Shupa-man~!” kinda reminded me on a Chupa Chips Lollipop. But it’s still awesome. It can be seen as a tribute to the band and all the hardships they survived. Especially Kyuhyuns Vocals at the end of the song are amazingly strong.
You should also check out their performance of Superman at the Mama Awards ♪

5 Japanese songs that are (positively) Creepy!

I’m not even gonna do an attempt of smalltalk – Let’s just get straight into it, right? It should be a prejudice that the wide range of Japanese music offers loads of weird and creepy stuff. It should be.
…Except it’s true – There are a lot of songs that can give you the chills(again, in a positive way)! I’ll share five from the top off my head with you:

1. petal – Ayumi Hamasaki

This is not what most people would deem scary in any way. Someone even told me it was such a sweet song. Yeah, right – Sweet? Maybe the lyrics would fall under sweet, but the haunting melody gives it a totally different touch for me(kinda similar to f(x)’s “Shadow”) – Actually it’s about the old ‘Love me, love me not’-Game, where she symbolizes her new-found love with a flower she found on her way home.

Goodbye, goodbye
Plucking off the petals one by one
The last remaining petal
If it lands on “he loves me not”… Continue reading

5 Korean songs that are (positively) Creepy!

“Positively Creepy”, you ask? Well, I can only talk for me, but I freakin’ love creepy songs. Songs that keep haunting me with their melody and their disturbing lyrics. Today I’m going to recommend some songs that give me goosebumps!
Actually I know far more Japanese songs of that sort, but I’ll start with the Korean ones today. Let the fun(?) begin:

1. Psycho – History

Let’s start out with a new song! Psycho from History doesn’t hold back in the least and gives us some direct insight into a rejected boyfriend that turns into a living nightmare:

Did you think you’d be done with me if we broke up?
Well, you thought wrong

There’s nobody by your side tonight.
[…] and once everybody who might see is deep asleep
I’ll go get you.

The playful tone they use along with the soothing, yet odd voice that seems to smile while singing… *shudder*

1. Super Junior – No Other

Continue reading
